MPFA Annual Report 2005/06

During the year, the MPFA received visitors from overseas and the Mainland, including representatives of government or non-government organizations, exchanging views as well as sharing experiences with them. Our representatives also participated in several international conferences and made presentations on the MPF System. Highlights of these activities are given below.


11-15 Apr 2005	Executive Director (Regulation & Policy) spoke on "Governance and investment policy" at the Contractual Savings Conference organized by the World Bank in the United States.
27-28 Apr 2005	Executive Director (Regulation & Policy) made a presentation on "Individual choice in retirement arrangements" at the OECD/International Organization of Pension Supervisors (IOPS) Conference on Private Pensions in Asia held in Bangkok, Thailand.
20 Jun 2005	At MPFA, Chief Operating Officer (Compliance) gave an overview of the MPF System to a delegation from the Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority of India.	Click to enlarge
24-25 Jun 2005	Chief Operating Officer (Compliance) attended the 2005 APEC Future Economic Leaders Think Tank in Sydney, Australia to discuss the topic "Meeting the Challenge of Ageing Economies" with representatives of APEC economies.
10 Aug 2005	At MPFA, Chief Operating Officer (Compliance) and Executive Director (Supervision) received a delegation of the Fiscal Policy Office, Ministry of Finance of Thailand, and shared the MPFA's experience in implementing the MPF System.	Click to enlarge
1 Nov 2005	At MPFA, Chief Operating Officer (Compliance) and Executive Director (Supervision) received a delegation from the Kenya Retirement Benefits Authority and gave them a presentation on the latest developments of the MPF System.
8 Nov 2005	At MPFA, Chief Operating Officer (Compliance) met visitors from the Employees Provident Fund of Malaysia and briefed them on the operation of the MPF System. At MPFA, Chief Operating Officer (Compliance) and Executive Director (Supervision) received the delegation of the Ministry of Labour and Social Security of the Central People's Government and gave them an update on the development of the MPF System.
28-29 Nov 2005	Executive Director (Regulation & Policy) gave an overview of the MPF System at the Second Asian Conference on Pensions and Retirement Planning organized by Asia Insurance Review in Hong Kong.	Click to enlarge
2 February 2006	At MPFA, Managing Director and Executive Director (Regulation & Policy) received the Chief Executive of the Financial Services Authority of the United Kingdom and shared Hong Kong's experience in operating the MPF System.	Click to enlarge
27 Feb - 3 Mar 2006	The MPFA coordinated a programme of briefings and visits for the Royal Monetary Authority of Bhutan, which was preparing for its new role as the pension regulator for the new pension system in Bhutan.	Click to enlarge
29-30 Mar 2006	Executive Director (Regulation & Policy) attended the OECD/IOPS Conference on Private Pensions in Latin America and participated in a panel on "Private Regulation in an International Context" to discuss major regulatory challenges related to the development of defined contribution individual choice system in Hong Kong.
Apr 2005 - Mar 2006	Fifteen groups of civil servants from the Mainland visited the MPFA, as part of their training programme, and were briefed on the operation of the MPF System.
