MPFA calls on construction workers to open casual employee accounts

Mandatory Provident Fund (MPF) Industry Schemes Committee Chairman Dr Roy Chung called on construction workers to open casual employee accounts under the MPF Industry Schemes and pay close attention to their MPF investment during a visit to a construction site in Tseung Kwan O today (31 January).

The visit was one of the outreach activities organized by the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) to promote the Industry Schemes. Dr Chung was joined by Chairman of the Hong Kong Construction Industry Employees General Union Chow Luen-kiu, MPFA Chief Corporate Affairs Officer and Executive Director Cheng Yan-chee, and representatives of the two Industry Schemes trustees.

The construction and catering industries have high labour mobility. The Industry Schemes are designed for the casual employees in the two industries. If these employees have opened casual employee accounts under the two Industry Schemes and their employer has joined one of the schemes, the employer can make contributions for them conveniently and efficiently.

As at the end of 2017, around 23,000 employers and 621,000 employees and self-employed persons were registered under the Industry Schemes.

MPF Industry Schemes Committee Chairman Dr Roy Chung reminded construction workers to open casual employee accounts and properly manage their MPF.
