2011/12 Skit Programme for Secondary School Students

The MPFA has been organizing Skit Programme since 2007/08 targeting senior form secondary school students to educate them the proper attitude on money management, benefits of making early financial plans to meet personal financial goals, including retirement, and to introduce basic concepts of the MPF System and MPF investment. The Programme received very positive feedback from teachers and students alike and it was considered effective in disseminating money management concepts to young people. For the academic year 2011/12, a new round of Skit Programme with a new interactive drama entitled “Fortune Cookies” was launched for junior form secondary school students.

The story is revolving around the triplets, William, Ken and Gem, who have different attitudes towards money management. The drama brings out the major concepts on money management at their different life stages. Students will be invited to interact with the actors of the drama to encourage them to review their own attitudes on money management and financial planning.

The Skit commenced its tour to 60 local secondary schools in mid-October 2011. Moreover, a preview cum training workshop for teachers, which aimed at facilitating the teachers to apply the topics of money management and financial planning into the curriculum of secondary schools, was organized in collaboration with the Hong Kong Teachers' Centre under the Education Bureau on 22 October 2011.

In the workshop, a representative from the MPFA and an experienced Certified Financial Planner gave presentation on various topics, including (i) basic concepts on money management and financial planning, (ii) the importance of financial management skills to adolescents’ development, and (iii) the importance and benefits of having an early start on retirement planning and how to manage MPF investment to suit individual needs.

Mr Alvin Lam, CFP and Member of Curriculum Development Council Committee on “Personal, Social & Humanities Education” and “Technology Education” shared with us the basic concepts on financial management.

Teachers enjoyed the interactive drama very much.
