MPFA Chairman meets with FTU (3 May 2021)

MPFA Chairman Mrs Ayesha Lau yesterday (3 May) met with the leadership of the Hong Kong Federation of Trade Unions (FTU), including President Dr Stanley Ng, Chairman Mr Kingsley Wong and other core members, to share with them her vision and core foci upon assuming the Chairmanship of MPFA, and to exchange views on various topics of common concern under the MPF System for the benefits and retirement protection of scheme members.

Mrs Lau said that MPFA has been striving to advance the retirement benefits of the working population. Among the vast array of stakeholders, she considered MPF scheme members, in particular, grassroots employees are of utmost importance as MPF will be their most important retirement savings. She said, “Although MPFA is a statutory regulator, we should not regulate for the sake of regulation. The most important mission of MPFA is to serve the scheme members.”

She also mentioned that MPFA shared the stance of FTU on the protection of employees’ rights. She hoped that MPFA would work even closer together with FTU and leverage on its extensive network to strengthen the understanding of the working population on the MPF System with a view to enhancing the retirement protection of scheme members.
