MPFA reminds MPF scheme members not to forge or use false documents for early withdrawal of MPF

The MPFA expressed grave concern about individuals suspected of forging or using false documents to illegally withdraw MPF early on the grounds of terminal illness or total incapacity. The MPFA is rendering full support to facilitate the Police’s investigation and reminds MPF scheme members to comply with the law. This is the first time that suspected forgery or use of false documents has been discovered in applications for MPF early withdrawal on the grounds of terminal illness.

A spokesperson of the MPFA today (16 October) said the MPFA has maintained close liaison with the Police and MPF trustees to follow up on any suspicious cases. According to the Crimes Ordinance, it is an offence for any person to forge or use a false instrument. Offenders are liable on conviction to a maximum penalty of imprisonment for 14 years.

The MPFA regularly reminds MPF trustees to ensure effective gate-keeping when assessing applications for early withdrawal of MPF and verifying the authenticity of supporting documents. Should any suspicious cases be identified, trustees are required to report them to the Police and notify the MPFA with a view to combatting and preventing illegal activities involving MPF.
