Winners of the MPFA multi-media competition

The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) has organized a multi-media competition for students in tertiary institutions in the past two academic years to encourage the younger generation to use their creativity to help spread MPF-related messages in their language and on their commonly-used platforms. In the 2012/13 school year, the MPFA joined hands with PC Market, a magazine published by Sing Tao Magazine Group, to organize another multi-media competition for students in tertiary institutions. This year’s competition, which received an enthusiastic response, featured both a short film category and a mobile phone application (App) category. An award-presentation ceremony was held yesterday (25 April) for the winners in both categories.

Winners awarded by professional judges
Cheung Chung-yeung, from the Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education (IVE) (Sha Tin), was champion in the mobile phone App category, while Yan Wai-ching and Wong Pak-wai, students from the School of Continuing and Professional Studies of the Chinese University of Hong Kong, won the short film category. Cheung’s mobile phone App, called MPF Boss, introduces the Employee Choice Arrangement (ECA) and helps users make a transfer by assisting them in filling in the transfer application form. The winning short film produced by Yan and Wong explains the features of the five major types of MPF funds, including their potential risks and returns, using chess as a metaphor.

In addition to a cash award and smartphone, members of the two winning teams will have a chance to work as summer interns at the MPFA this year.

The first and second runners-up in the short film category were Andy Fung Kwok-yiu, from IVE (Morrison Hill), and Hui Ting-fung and Tang Wai-ying, from the Chinese University of Hong Kong, respectively. Siu Check-man, from the Open University, was first runner-up in the mobile phone App category, and Ng Kong-choi, from IVE (Sha Tin), was second runner-up. The judges said the winning teams showed remarkable creativity in their multi-media productions, spreading MPF-related messages to the public in an effective and light-hearted manner.

Netizens’ Popularity Award
The short film produced by Yeung Chun-fui, from IVE (Tsing Yi), and the mobile phone App created by Wu Chong-shing, from the Open University, got the most “like” votes on the competition’s Facebook page, thus winning the Netizens’ Popularity Award. Each received a tablet computer for their accomplishments. Separately, two netizens were each given a cash award of $1,000 for leaving the best message on the Facebook page for the respective winning piece.

The MPFA would like to thank all participating students and tertiary institutions. The MPFA will continue to organize activities catering for students from tertiary institutions to promote the importance of getting an early start in preparing for their retirement.
