Tertiary students produce creative 3D animation to deliver messages on the MPF
Would you ever imagine a relationship between Mandatory Provident Fund (MPF) investment and an animal race? During this academic year, the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) organized a 3D Animation Training Programme on the MPF for local tertiary students, and the Best Performance Award went to a team who produced a 3D animation which used an animal race to illustrate the relationship between the returns and risks of MPF funds.
The three students from the winning team, Chan Yu-tung, Wan Shu-ying and Lam Yee-ling, are from the Community College of City University. They used five different animals, representing five types of MPF funds – equity funds, mixed asset funds, bond funds, guaranteed funds and conservative funds – in a 3D animation. While the faster animals were often slowed down by obstacles, the slowest one kept going at a steady pace. The video used the animal race featuring the five animals to remind the audience of the importance of picking the MPF fund that best suits their personal needs.
Chan Yu-tung, a member of the winning team, said, “We wanted to explain the risks and returns of MPF funds in a simple and interesting manner. We thought using a different animal to represent each of the five types of MPF funds would help our audience grasp the message more easily.”
A total of 40 teams participated in the Training Programme. In addition to the Best Performance award, the MPFA presented the Best Story and the Best Visual Effects awards to two other teams at the prize presentation ceremony today (30 April). The three winning teams were awarded scholarships and the members of the team awarded the Best Performance will have a chance to work as summer interns at the MPFA.
The three winning 3D animations are now available on the MPFA YouTube channel. Members of public are invited to watch them online.
Every year, the MPFA organizes various programmes on money management for students at the kindergarten, primary, secondary and tertiary levels to disseminate messages on sound money management and promote the importance of saving for the future.
