The MPFA reminds the public to beware of bogus calls purportedly from the MPFA hotline
The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) received an enquiry from a member of the public concerning a suspicious call with the incoming call display showing the same phone number as that of the enquiry hotline of the MPFA (2918 0102). The caller claimed to be an MPFA staff member and asked for a face-to-face meeting.
The MPFA would like to clarify that the said hotline is used only for receiving incoming calls from members of the public, and the hotline number is never used to contact them.
If members of the public receive a suspicious call from someone claiming to be an MPFA staff member, they should write down the caller’s name, title and contact number, and then call the MPFA Hotline (2918 0102) to check whether the caller is indeed an MPFA staff member.
The MPFA would also like to reiterate that it never contacts people by phone or through any other channel to sell them MPF products or to set up meetings to do so. Nor does the MPFA ever commission anyone to do so.
Members of the public are reminded not to disclose any personal information under any circumstances and to contact the Police immediately if they suspect a call is a scam.
The MPFA earlier appealed to the public to beware of suspicious calls from people claiming to be MPFA staff members. Details can be found in the MPFA press release issued on 12 August 2015.
