MPF Investment

Education Centre

One of the goals of MPFA is to help Hong Kong’s young people develop proper attitudes towards money management . This is in line with the policy advocated by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). Our next generation who are prospective MPF scheme members are one of the target groups of the educational programmes.

Since the 2011-12 academic year, the MPFA has joined hands with the Tung Wah Group of Hospitals Healthy Budgeting Family Debt Counselling Centre, with the Education Bureau as the co-organizer, to stage “Planning a Brighter Future” life-planning workshop (「策劃大未來」生涯規劃活動). The programme ties in with the Other Learning Experiences (OLE) component of the senior secondary curriculum and target at senior form students. The aim of the workshop is to help young people to develop appropriate attitudes towards financial management at different stages of their lives, and recognize the importance of getting an early start in retirement planning.

The school-based workshop, which lasts for three hours, is being toured at various local secondary schools in the 2019-20 academic year. Hosted by social workers with experience in conducting financial education for the youth, the workshop gets participating students to simulate scenarios that typically occur at different life stages. These include scenarios of working, spending, investing, managing one’s MPF, conducting financial planning, and living in retirement. In each of the scenarios the students experience different financial needs, and are required to make appropriate financial decisions accordingly.

The students then participate in a discussion and debriefing session, in which they are encouraged to reflect on appropriate attitudes towards financial management. They are also helped to understand the importance of sound financial management and early retirement planning, essential for paving their way to a better future.
