MPFA briefs FTU on MPF full portability proposals (1 April 2025)
MPFA Chief Corporate Affairs Officer Wallace Lau, Director (Policy and Regulation) Kent Yau and MPFA representatives met with The Hong Kong Federation of Trade Unions (FTU) on 1 Apr. During the meeting, they introduced the proposals for implementing full portability of MPF benefits (full portability) and solicited views from members of the FTU Rights and Benefits Committee and representatives of FTU’s labour unions.
Lau expressed that the implementation of full portability would enhance the autonomy of the working population in MPF management and foster competition in the MPF market, driving MPF trustees to continue reducing fees, improving performance and enhancing service quality, thereby providing better retirement protection for the working population. Yau called on representatives of labour unions to actively provide feedback to help the MPFA refine the full portability proposals for the benefit of the working population.
MPFA launched a one-month public consultation on specific proposals to implement full portability on 28 March 2025. The consultation paper is available on the MPFA website (https://www.mpfa.org.hk/en/info-centre/consultations-and-conclusions/open), and members of the public are welcome to provide their feedback to the MPFA by 28 April.
