MPFA attended IOPS annual meetings and Global Forum on Private Pensions in Istanbul (5-7 November 2025)

MPFA Managing Director Cheng Yan-chee and Executive Director (Policy) Eric Cheng participated in the annual meetings of the International Organisation of Pension Supervisors (IOPS) and the Global Forum on Private Pensions (Global Forum) jointly organized by IOPS, the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), and the Insurance and Private Pension Regulation and Supervision Authority and the Pension Monitoring Center of Türkiye in Istanbul from 5 to 7 November 2025.

At the IOPS Technical Committee meeting, Cheng Yan-chee presented MPFA’s measures to further enhance governance of MPF trustees.  MPFA’s relentless effort in promoting sustainable investing and value for money in the MPF System was particularly well received by the meeting participants.  Separately, Cheng Yan-chee spoke at a discussion panel of the Global Forum, sharing policy insights on how Default Investment Strategy (DIS) supports scheme members in investing according to life cycle strategies.  The experience and impact of DIS on fee reduction and member empowerment provided a useful reference especially for pension systems that are contemplating to set up or review their default investment options.

Cheng Yan-chee and Eric Cheng also actively participated in discussion with pension regulator representatives and experts worldwide on pension-related issues, such as encouraging voluntary contributions and promoting digitalization.

MPFA will jointly organize the next Global Forum with IOPS and OECD in Hong Kong from 7 to 9 December 2026, providing a vibrant platform for regulators, experts and industry participants around the world to exchange views on the development, opportunities and challenges for private pension systems.

The IOPS is an international standard-setting body for pension supervisory issues with the objective of improving the quality and effectiveness of the supervision of private pension systems around the world.
