MPFA attends IOPS Committee Meetings and International Conference in South Africa (16-18 September 2026)
MPFA Managing Director Cheng Yan-chee, Executive Director (Policy) Eric Cheng and General Manager (Policy & Regulation) David Chan attended the meetings of the Technical Committee and Executive Committee of the International Organisation of Pension Supervisors (IOPS), the International Conference jointly organised by IOPS, the Financial Sector Conduct Authority of South Africa, and the World Bank (WB), and the WB Training Course in Cape Town, South Africa from 16 to 18 September.

At the International Conference, Cheng Yan-chee spoke at a session on the topic of value for money, sharing MPFA’s experience in enhancing value for MPF scheme members on multiple fronts, including further raising operational efficiency in MPF administration and reducing administrative costs through the eMPFTM Platform (eMPF), formulating ready-made and low-cost investment solutions based on life-cycle investment strategy, and strengthening governance and supervisory measures (such as conducting value-for-money assessments) to ensure that fees charged by MPF schemes and funds are commensurate with value delivered. MPFA’s relentless effort in enhancing value in MPF was well received by the participants.

Eric Cheng gave a presentation in one of the training sessions of the WB Training Course, sharing MPFA’s experience in supervision of the operation of MPF schemes. He highlighted practical measures on supervision of and coordination among different stakeholders, including employers, trustees and intermediaries. During the IOPS meetings, MPFA representatives actively participated in the discussion on the review of IOPS’s guidelines on pension supervision, initiatives to improve governance of pension funds as well as revision of the methodology for review of supervisory systems using IOPS Principles, and shared MPFA’s practical and forward-looking approach to adoption of artificial intelligence in the pension sector. MPFA representatives also took the opportunity to promote the IOPS meetings, OECD/IOPS/MPFA Global Forum and eMPF workshop to be held in Hong Kong from 7 to 10 December 2026. The IOPS is the international standard-setting body for pension supervisory issues with the objective of improving the quality and effectiveness of the supervision of private pension systems globally.
